1. The week
The growth-scare story is still the main driver. Long-term yields eased again this week, but the higher-timeframe rates backdrop is still tight, and high-yield credit did not get real relief. Money is rotating under the surface: equal-weight stocks, banks, and homebuilders look firmer, while the big growth indexes stay soft on the weekly charts. Tech, metals, nuclear names, and crypto weeklies remain under pressure. Global money supply and net liquidity are still expanding as of Oct 19, but that backdrop has not repaired those weeklies. The calendar ahead is the Fed on Oct 28, then GDP and PCE on Oct 29.
2. Watching
- Quantum computing stocks (QTUM), lower. The bearish case already triggered: a bounce that got rejected at 141.25–143.24, with 143.24 as the line where it's wrong. It closed at 136.31. Do not chase from the close; manage the open idea. Falling yields are still the main risk. Confidence: medium.
- Semiconductor stocks (SMH), lower. The bearish case already triggered: a bounce that got rejected at 540–554.38, with 554.38 as the line where it's wrong. It closed at 527.24. Do not chase from the close; manage the open idea. A sharp relief bounce in tech is the main risk. Confidence: medium.
- Silver, lower. The bearish case is a rejection at 56.326, with 58.65 as the line where it's wrong. The prior rejection short above that band is still open. Crowded short positioning raises squeeze risk on a weekly close back above 56.326. Confidence: medium.
3. What would change it
The Fed on Oct 28, then GDP and PCE on Oct 29. A clear break lower in long-term yields that also lifts credit would challenge the growth-scare read, and a weekly repair in tech would undercut the shorts that already triggered.
4. Leave alone
Chasing tech, robotics, nuclear, silver, and crypto lower from the close. Fresh high-yield shorts inside the recent range. Calling bottoms in metals, uranium, and crypto. Chasing the Australian dollar higher while that trade is crowded, and leaning short the Nasdaq into a crowded long.
